As I said, I have no issue with him fighting his side and he's clearly a good human being.
But if you (or he) thinks the only thing anybody official did to facilitate his departure was "a pen pusher" giving him flight clearance then I would suggest that you/they are fooling themselves. In any case, you need "pen pushers" to facilitate the logistics, that's the point, from the bottom to the top of a mass evacuation in what is close to a war zone you need people to push pens/keyboards/telephones and taking their time to evacuate stray dogs is reducing the time spent on other things.
That's why on balance I feel this was not a positive thing - if this whole rigmarole resulted in even just one actual human being not being processed then it was a very bad thing.

Pen waited for more than 24 hours for his plane to get diplomatic clearance to leave. As he sat in the hangar, an Army officer approached him to give him a piece of his mind about 'wasting army resources'.
'He had a right go,' says Pen.
'Once he'd finished I said, 'Right let's put some facts on the table here'. I explained to him 'It's a cargo plane. The dogs and cats are going in the hold where you can't put people. I haven't used any military resources. I didn't put any of you guys in danger getting in because the soldiers were stood on the barbed wired where they've always stood.
'They didn't come forward to facilitate my entry into the airport. When I left where they were stood they were dealing with the next group of Afghans coming in via the Taliban'. So this Army guy is like, 'Oh s**t, sorry mate'.'
'In the end it wasn't even the British who loaded the cargo. They'd gone. That's how close to the wire my flight coming in was.' .
So apart from some pen pusher giving him clearance he had fuck all help from the US or UK Government...

I have a lot of respect for the bloke in serving his country and I respect what he does for animals and understand how they've been used to support our soldiers in Afghanistan.
However, he hasn't just chartered a plane and they've got an uber to the airport. In order to arrange the logistics for the flight, getting people (and animals there), there will have been a lot of work of military and civil service people facilitating that - getting people into the airport (and getting the animals in) - liaising with the private contractor to get access to a heavily militarised airport. All that work should have been focused on rescuing human beings. Any time put in to evacuating Afghan stray dogs is time that could have been put in to saving men, women and children.

Humans weren't "2nd" to animals, Pen had his own plane to bring his team and animals home, the issue he had was the home office issuing the correct documents for his team.

The plane was procured to bring the animals AND the people home but some didn't have passports.

The thing is, in my opinion, people who think he is a cunt seemingly can't put themselves in others position and just sit on their hig ground looking down at people.
You don't know him but we do know he served in the Marines for 22 years so he has a certain amount of national pride and brotherhood that we should all be appreciative of and should be able to understand. For whatever reason, he decides to put his efforts into looking after mistreated animals in a dangerous place and gives jobs and point of life to many Afghans. All this shit goes down and he does and says whatever be can to get his animals and workers out. He was under pressure, scared and angry..all emotions that we all would feel if it was our family and friends and life and yet people who can never know what it's like to walk a mile in his shoes write online that he is a cunt. Think about that for a minute. When did you become that person. LOL
